The Best Turkey Brine

Right Spice The Best Turkey Brine

5 minutes active, 16-24 hours hands-off

This is the I make for my own family every single Thanksgiving. Brining your turkey is the biggest upgrade you'll ever make.

What you’ll need:

  • 3 cups apple juice or apple cider
  •  2 gallons cold water
  • 2 Tbsp. dried rosemary
  • 5 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 1/2 cups kosher salt
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 3 Tbsp. peppercorns
  • 3 whole bay leaves
  • 2 tsp dried orange peel

What you’ll do:

  1. Combine all of the ingredients in a large pot and bring to a boil, stirring until the salt and sugar dissolve. Turn off the heat and cover. Let the brine cool completely. Warm liquid will start cooking the turkey.
  2.  Place the uncooked turkey in a large brining bag or pot, pour in the brine solution and remaining water to cover the turkey, and refrigerate for 16 - 24 hours.
  3. Before roasting, remove the turkey from the brine and submerge the turkey in a pot or sink filled with fresh water for 20 minutes. Make sure the water is cold. This will help remove excess salt from the outside.

4.      Remove the turkey from the water, pat very dry, and cook according to your normal roasting method. Or check out mine at https://rightspice.shop/blogs/recipes/how-i-roast-a-turkey
